Immacolata Concetta Vanacore, “Noni,” was born June 4, 1933, in Ticciano, Italy, to Saverio and Maria (Buonocore) Vanacore. Growing up in Italy, she worked frequently alongside her younger sister, Anna “Nanny,” forming a special bond that remained throughout their lives.
While in Italy, she met Edward Duenas San Agustin of Dededo, Guam, a member of the United States Navy. They were married on November 4, 1954, for 44 years until his death in 1998, during which they had raised five sons.
As a Navy family, they spent their early married years between the United States and Italy before eventually settling in the Washington, D.C., area and making their home in Forest Heights, Maryland. Noni devoted her life to her family as a loving wife and mother and later cherished her role as nonna to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Following the death of her husband, Noni moved to Bonita, California, where she lived with her son and his family until her passing. She treasured the time she was able to spend there with her beloved sister, Nanny, the only one of her siblings who had also left Italy and made her home in the United States.
Noni is survived by her sons: Edward John (Alicia) San Agustin of Bonita, CA; Michael (Judy) San Agustin of Monongahela, PA; and Andrew James San Agustin (Charles Harris) of Everett, WA; and daughter-in-law Lisa San Agustin of La Habra, CA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Eric A. San Agustin, Bonita; Shaun E. San Agustin, Bonita; Cristina M. (Mike) Dascoli of Perryopolis, PA; Samantha L. San Agustin of Cranberry Township, PA; Daniela R. (Ivan) Ortega, Bonita; and Rachele M. (Chase) Fickett, Bonita; three great-grandchildren, Lyric A. Dascoli, Dorian M. Dascoli, and Emilio Ortega. Also surviving is her brother, Ciro (Rosetta) Vanacore of Ticciano, Italy.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, John San Agustin, who died in infancy, and Frank Saverio San Agustin; her siblings and their spouses, Agnese V. (Michele) Celentano; Giuseppina Vanacore; Michele (Lucia) Vanacore; Angela “Giulia” V. (Luigi) Laghetto; Domenico “Mimi” (Agnese) Vanacore; and Anna “Nanny” V. (Charles) Carbullido, later companion of Tom Chaco.
Noni will be forever loved and deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now embraced by the Virgin Mary, Jesus, and our Lord God in His Divine Kingdom.
Ti voglio bene sempre, Mamma 🩷
