

Irene Abad Giroux, 87 years old was born on December 15, 1935 in Fort McKinley, Rizal Makati, Philippines and then moved to Imus, Cavite. She has 9 brothers and sisters who she loved dearly. When she was 7, she and her siblings endured the cruel Japanese invasion of the Philippines islands during WWII. Irene would share stories of the small children hiding from and the older ones intensely fighting the Japanese to all her children. She met her husband Robert Sr. in Olongapo City, Philippines through her best friend Rosa who is Robert’s cousin. At the time, Robert Sr. was enlisted in the U.S. Navy visiting family and friends. Elder family members recall how Robert Sr. was captured by Irene’s beauty and kind heart. They married and resided in a peaceful house on the beach they built themselves in Olongapo. They had 4 children, Vivian, Karen, Robert Jr., and Sherwin. Robert Sr. passed away in 1994 and Irene moved to the United States to join her adult children.
Irene loved to dance the Salsa and Chacha, listen to Elvis Presly, and cook delicious Filipino food. She made the best Pancit and Lumpia out of all the Lolas. She was always very stylish and loved to dress up and go out to events. She’ll be dearly missed by her children and extended family. In addition to her children, Irene is survived by her sisters Amelia and Merlita, children-in-laws Maryann, Marilyn, Joe, Glenn and Derek, and 14 grandchildren Audrey, Mark, Ashlee, Sarah, Dylan, Ryan, Steven, Matthew, Jason, Alex, Brian, Sean, Gian, Rhiane.
