

Weldon Lindsey was born in Dallas, Texas on 3 of November, 1927 to Noah and Clara Mae Lindsey. He was the third child of nine children. Jim grew up in Canyon, Texas and graduated from Canyon High School in 1946. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1950 during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan where he met Kazuko (Kay) Yada. They were married in May of 1954. After an honorable discharge in 1953, he went to work for the Army-Air Force Exchange and then later, the Navy Exchange where he worked for 44 years. His career took him all over the world including Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Guam, Alameda, Memphis, an on buying trips throughout Asia and the Middle East. In 1968 he and his family moved to Imperial Beach, CA and Jim fell in love with this little beach town. They bought a house and Jim was active in the community and was part of the Imperial Beach City Council. Although his career took him away from Imperial Beach for a time, he returned in 1990 where he continued to work until retiring at age 70. At the time he retired he was the Director of all the Navy Exchange stores in the San Diego area. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Kay Lindsey, two children, James Weldon Lindsey, Jr. and Jarita Pethel, and six grandchildren: Melanie, Carol Kay, David, Erin, Cody, and Stephen. He is also survived by one younger brother, Bobby Clifford Lindsey. He passed away peacefully at home on 30 January, 2017. under the direction of Glen Abbey Mortuary, Bonita, CA.
