It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Michael Zacharzuk, beloved father, grandfather, and friend. James was born to Peter Charles Zacharzuk and Florence Barbara Zacharzuk (Zajkowski) on September 4, 1961, in San Diego, California. He was the sixth of seven children, a cherished sibling and a source of joy to his family.
James’ life was defined by his immense love for his family. He was a devoted father to his four daughters and a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, with one more on the way. His warmth, laughter, and smile could light up any room. He touched the lives of everyone around him with his kindness and compassion, leaving a legacy of love that will continue to thrive through his children and grandchildren.
After dedicating 34 years of service to the City of Chula Vista's Wastewater Department, James retired, only to continue his passion for community engagement by working with the San Diego Padres at Petco Park for over 10 years. He cherished the relationships he built there and found joy in being a part of the team's success and energy.
James is survived by his daughters Amanda Zacharzuk-Wood, Breana Harding, Cassie Yong, and Mercedes Smith, and his grandchildren Sianna, Annalise, Taylor, Oziah, Elliana, Amias, Kade, and baby Harding on the way. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings, extended family, and countless friends who were lucky to know him.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral arrangements.
James Michael Zacharzuk will forever be remembered for his generous spirit, infectious smile, and the boundless love he gave to all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. May he rest in paradise.
