She was born May 11, 1927, in Dunn County, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Ole and Esther Koolmo.
Jeanette Supri grew up on a family farm in Menomonie, Wisconsin. There is a long history of love and devotion that ran through every inch of that home. Not only was she and her siblings born in that farmhouse, her Father Ole, was born there too. The second oldest of 14, Jeanette took on many responsibilities at an early age. Her Mother, Esther, taught her how to cook and bake, keep a tidy household, and something she carried on for a lifetime… how to sew. Her Father showed her the ropes around the farm, taking on duties that came with maintaining the cows and garden. She mentioned many times throughout her life that she wouldn’t have had it any other way. She took great pride in the duties that came with the farm and family. Whether it was milking the cows, picking and canning the fruits and vegetables, or being able to help where she could to keep the Koolmo household thriving, she took deep satisfaction in knowing her efforts where a help to all. Really the epitome of what “family-first” means. She held her family close to her heart and maintained a close relationship with each and every one of them. Hard work was never something she shied away from. It was a part of her, you could say it was part of her DNA. Being that she is Norwegian, she had the essence of a Viking Queen, never backing down when times got tough. That tenacity and dedication didn’t stop when she left the farm, it continued to grow stronger as she made her way to California. Bringing with that same love and devotion that ran through that family home, into the home she made for her husband, Clyde and herself and in San Diego.
She met her husband Clyde Supri in Menomonie, and together made their way to San Diego in 1950. They settled in Chula Vista in 1951, and had their only child, Donna in 1953. She became a Charter Member of St. Mark's Lutheran church fairly quickly upon arriving to Chula Vista. She spent many hours volunteering within the church community, applying her skills in the many sectors. The one she fell in love with was the quilting committee. She absolutely loved to sew! This committee was a wonderful way for her to give back to the community, comforting those who found themselves in a difficult situation by providing a part of her creatively and love through quilts. It filled her heart with gratitude.
She lived a long beautiful life. Able to travel with Clyde back to Minnesota and Wisconsin every summer to visit her family. She was also able to travel to Norway and Alaska amongst many other states throughout the years, creating so many memories she shared with us all over the years. She left a legacy and led by example. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. Jeanette was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She will be greatly missed, but will never be forgotten, as we will all hold her in our hearts and thoughts every day.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clyde Supri. Survived by her Daughter, Donna Ditimus, Grandchildren, Shawn and Marisa Ditimus, Great Grandchildren Mia and Shawn Ditimus and sisters, Karen Wold and Marvel Korbel.
