Everyone’s life is the sum total of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, the places they have gone. Jesus “Estefano” Cervantes Delgado was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Jesus will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Jesus was born on June 24, 1922 in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico to Francisca Delgado & Jose Cervantes. Jesus was raised with three siblings (all deceased). He had two brothers, Lupe and Refugio, and a sister Lupe (Guadalupe). Jesus was closest to his grandfather, "Mi Grande," (my great one).
On May 25, 1953, Jesus exchanged wedding vows with Elizabeth De La Cruz (deceased). They had a courthouse wedding in Tijuana, Baja California. Empathetic and loyal, Jesus was committed to making his new family happy.
While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately the same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Jesus was blessed with two children, a daughter, Bertha Irene Geyer and a son, Alejandro Cervantes. Jesus worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs, raising his children in a positive and nurturing environment.
How a person performs in the workplace can be a reflection on how they live their life. Fortunately Jesus enjoyed what he did for a living. Jesus was self-employed, landscaping for 10 years; prior to 1970, he did farm & ranch work. Showing a strong work ethic, He worked diligently and did his best to succeed.
Jesus enjoyed his leisure time in gardening, reading and cooking. He liked to watch boxing, baseball, roller derby, Animal Kingdom, his favorite show, and the Lawrence Welk weekly show with his wife. Anything he planted, grew strong and beautifully. Great cook. Artful in story-telling. Enjoyed teasing his wife and kids. He was very independent. For the last two years, he was forced to use a motor scooter. But he went everywhere, even across the border to Tijuana. In the 50’s, he drove a tractor. He would cross the Calexico border every day to work in a farm and operate the tractor. He also followed the crops throughout the west and southwest. He traveled alone as to not uproot his family. He didn’t have an education, but he wanted his children to be educated; so they would escape the hard life he endured. Never did he complain of pain, until his late years.
Jesus passed away due to Pneumonia on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, California. He is survived by: Children: Alejandro Cervantes, Bertha Irene Geyer, Daughter-in-law: Hortencia; Son-in-law: Timothy Geyer. Jesus also leaves Grandchildren: Alexandra and Joe Sepeda, Candice and Terrell Sutherland, Timothy Geyer II, Seth Geyer, Valeria and Juan Salazar and Great Grandchildren, Florencia and Lily Alvarado, and Jasmin Sepeda, to cherish his memory.
