Born: January 20, 1939 in Manila, Philippines – Passed: August 11, 2025, Chula Vista, CA
Jethra “Jet” Alegre Alegrado, 86, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in Chula Vista, CA—just one day before what would have been 64 years of marriage to her late beloved husband, Aurelio.
For 57 years, San Diego was her home, where Jethra’s love as a daughter of Basilides and Montserrat, sister to Elita, Marlo, Rommel, and the late Alrico, Redentor, Basilides Jr., shone brightly. She was the proud mother of Giovanni (Karen), Maria (Mithi), Aurel (Jeselle), and Czarina (Ken); the devoted grandmother of her 10 grandchildren Alec, Ariana, Nick, Noah, Amara, Jenna, Kendal, Mathew, Jonah, and Camile; and the adoring great-grandmother of Zoie. At her side was always her loyal companion, her beloved dog, Milo.
Jethra was the heart of the Alegrado family, raising her loved ones with unwavering devotion, and her unforgettable feisty spirit. A devoted member of The Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, her faith grounded her throughout her life. She also carried a joyful love for shopping—not only for herself, but even more so as a way to show care for her family and friends. From The Broadway in the 1970s to Macy’s, HomeGoods, Marshalls, QVC, and HSN, she had a gift for spotting treasures. She reminded us that family always comes first—and that the delight of a package at the door was simply one of life’s little joys.
A celebration of her beautiful life will be held at Glen Abbey Mortuary in the Chapel of Roses on Wednesday, August 27, from 5–9 p.m. The Burial Mass will follow on Thursday, August 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, with interment immediately after at Glen Abbey Mortuary. In her memory, honor Jethra by taking someone you love shopping—and be sure to tell them exactly how you feel, just as she always did.
