

John Jacob Spooner was born in Pottsville, PA on December 1, 1920 to Josephine and Jacob Spooner. He spent his youth in Warrior Run, PA, joining the Navy in 1942. He retired from the Navy as a Master Chief in 1966 after 24 years and then was employed at Naval Station, San Diego as Recreation Director, MWR, for 18 years, retiring in 1986. In retirement, he was active with Meals on Wheels, South Bay, AARP Driving Safety Program and Chula Vista Police Senior Patrol. He also was a member of the Fleet Reserve, # 61 and St. Pius Catholic Church, Chula Vista.
His first wife, Vivian died in 1977. He and his second wife, Ann, have been married for 34 years. He has three children, Joni Kirk of San Diego, Connie Spooner of Palm Desert, CA and Michael Spooner (spouse Janet) of Fallbrook, CA. He also has four step children, Jeff Boyden, Mark Boyden, Nancy Magor, and Susan Boyden. He has been further blessed with 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Additionally, he has one brother, Stanley, living in Warsaw Poland.
