Well John,  Tomorrow would have been our 45th.  I thought for sure we would make it to 50.  You never know what the future will bring.  I think I miss your constant chatter the most.  It is so quiet around here without you. Happy Anniversary up there! Love you and miss you.

Merry Christmas John.  I miss you so very much and wish you could be here with us this Christmas. Watch over us and keep our loved ones safe.  Save a place for me up there in that place we call Heaven.  I love you!

I miss you so much dad. I never imagined my heart could hurt so much. I know you are in the most beautiful Heaven with the most beautiful Angels but it is so hard without you here. I keep wanting to pick up the phone to call you for advise or simply just to talk and it is so hard not being able to. I love you

Johnny Ray will always be remembered as a warming smile with an upbeat attitude. He was a man with high energy and always in perpetual motion. Tireless and forever looking for something to do. Whether it was another challenge, something to conquer or something to learn; he took pride in it. He wanted to get it right. 

His inquisitive nature made him engaging to the people he met. He loved digging beyond the obvious and finding something that made you special  a treasure you had inside and never considered. Perhaps that is why he loved to walk. He would spot and collect other people's treasures along his pathway.  Treasures that likely told stories about the people who tossed or lost them. 

In reality, this is who Johnny Ray Gibson was to us  a treasure along our pathway. A landmark we will forever cherish.

The following poem was written by a good friend of John's-Jim O"Neill.  He couldn't quit bring himself to read it at the memorial but I think it's too great not to share.

Johnny Ray....I've Gone Fishing!

I've finished life's chores assigned to me
So put me on a boat headed out to sea
Please send along my fishing pole
For I've been invited to the fishin' hole

Where every day is a day to fish
To fill your heart with every wish
Don't worry or feel sad for me
I'm fishin' with the Master of the sea

We will miss each other for awhile
But you will come and bring your smile
That won't be long you will see

To all of those that think of me

Just tell them Johnny Ray's gone fishin'.

Some of you may not know this, but I did not call Uncle John by his name, but 'Uncle Fred' instead.  Ever since I was a little girl, we had a running joke about this and I would greet him with a hug and a "Hi Uncle Fred."  We laughed every time!  It never seemed to get old. 

Dear Uncle Fred, Did you know you were the first to teach me how to make scrambled eggs? It was one morning when I spent this night at the spring valley house.  You also taught me how to play pin ball on your Elvis machine.   I vividly remember playing 'name that tune' with you at family parties when i was in my teens.  We'd have the radio on and try to be the first one to name the song and the artist.  (all oldies of course!) I specifically remember an Eric Clapton/JJ Cale disagreement and YOU WON! You, your smile, your dance moves, and your blue truck will always be vivid in my memory and heart. Love you and miss you, Kristie

Dear Denise G Matthews IM SENDING MY CONDOLENCES TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY , I REMEMBER  MEETING YOUR HANDSOME DAD AT HAILEYS BIRTHDAY PARTY AT THE JUMP ZONE AND HE WAS SUCH A GENTLEMEN JUST REMEMBER HE IS NO LONGER SUFFERING AND IS IN A MUCH BETTER PLACE ONCE AGAIN IM VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS AND KNOW ONE DAY WE WILL ALL BE WITH OUR DEAR LOVED ONES ONE DAY HUGS TO YOU ALL

John was always smiling at work and was looking forward to retiring. I used to see him almost every day at Metro before I retired. I always enjoyed working with him and was looking forward to seeing him at our monthly retiree luncheon.

We thank you Lord for the good things you have done among his family and friends by his life. Grant that our dear Johnny Ray Gibson may rejoice with you in heaven as he journey to your kingdom.  We love you from the Montemayo-Salinas family

Heaven gained an angel, and we lost a great man frown emoticon I still can't believe you're gone but it hits me and I'm reminded that you're no longer with us when I go to the house to pick up the babies and I don't see your friendly smiling face asking us to watch a show you recorded or you're not there feeding Kaya ice cream tongue emoticon or holding Cash.. I'm especially heartbroken when Kaya asks where gaapa is and answers her own question that you're at work. Wish we had a little more time with you.. We love and miss you, dad. May you now rest in paradise

Ginnie I have been thinking of you a lot  lately since you lost the love of your life.  I wish I could have been around more to enjoy and see all the love you two shared. Our condolences to the Gibson family.  It was a sad news to hear that  John is gone when my wife, Candy and I just said hello to him the week before he passed away.  He was a very nice, soft spoken, kind with a big smile every time we saw him when we walk around the neighborhood.  He was a very nice friend and neighbor. We will miss your friendly chat and big smile.  John, Rest In Peace.  You are now in heaven.  God bless!

Dear Uncle John, it has been a tough week for all of us, I am still in disbelief you are no longer here with us. In my heart I know you have moved onto a better place. I truly appreciate the wonderful person you were to me and our entire family. You had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up any room. Your Reebok's will live forever in my heart! Dad I miss you so much. I still can't believe you aren't here with us. I know you are watching over those you love but it doesn't make not having you here any easier. I am so shocked and sad. Johnny was always my go-to guy at the Electric Meter Shop. He always wore a smile. He will be truly missed! My heart goes out to his family.

My Condolences to John's family.  I was shocked to hear about my old friend and colleague, John.  I will always remember his laugh and fun times at work.  He will be missed by a lot of people.

      I am going to miss you. I have never met a man with more energy than you working at SDG&E. You always were around shining brightly for the rest of the troops.

My thoughts and prayers go out to and will always be with Johnny G and all of his family. Myself, along with many friends and colleagues, feel the shock of the loss of this great man. I will forever miss his friendship and working with him as I have for the past 16 years.

So sorry to hear this.  He was a great employee and a very nice person.  Life is not fair and my heart aches.  My condolences to his family.

From the time I began working for SDG&E, Johnny was a constant source of knowledge, encouragement and friendship! I will greatly miss his presence. Blessings to his family as they travel this difficult road.
