

He is survived by his three children, Evon Pontino, Chula Vista CA, John Pontino, Temecula CA and Frances Arce, Chula Vista CA. His grandchildren, Lauryn Arce, Celestine Albaran, Noah Arce, Aiden Albaran, Nathan Pontino, Dylan Pontino, Jonathan Pontino and RJ Rivera. He is survived by his brothers George Pontino, Tony Pontino, Frank Pontino, Thomas Pontino and his sister Elena Pontino. He is also survived by his cherished partner in life Evita Adams.
Johnny was born to Antonio and Resurreccion Pontino on August 11th, 1949, in Manila Philippines and was raised in Castillejos, Zambales. He joins them in eternal life along with his sister Christina Pontino Tabuso.
He immigrated to the United States in 1966 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1968. He married, having three children, raising them in San Francisco CA, San Jose CA, and finally settling in San Diego CA.
His employment included: Federal Police Officer, U.S. Post Office and retiring from the Department of Defense as a Transportation Management Analyst.
In his younger years, Johnny played baseball, basketball and possessed a plethora of knowledge of sports. He would spend many hours conversing about sports and was a San Francisco 49ers fan.
In his retirement years, Johnny excelled in the sport of Golf and considered it his “therapy.” He spent many years with his Millennium Golf Club and even travelled to the Philippines to play and compete. He cherished the time spent playing golf with his brothers, nephews, and cousins.
Johnny was a proud member of the Coronado Masonic Lodge. He was raised a Master Mason at Coronado Lodge no. 441 on November 19th, 2002. He was a beloved brother of the fraternity. He practiced what the fraternity teaches. Brotherly Love. Relief and Truth.
Johnny had an incredible flair for cooking and was revered as a “Master BBQ-er.” Johnny showed his love by cooking for anyone and everyone. Johnny eagerly shared his recipe for his infamous BBQ as requested by everyone, but unfortunately no one could replicate his magic.
From an early age Johnny was an artist and musician. He commanded a room with his singing and guitar playing. He was an ultimate frontman and leader. He loved dancing and encouraged others to let loose and be themselves.
Johnny loved spending time with his kids and especially his grandkids. He would always ask, “What do you want me to bring to eat?” All the grandchildren especially looked forward to the beach-day celebrations. During the holidays, Johnny would bring his guitar and sing with the grandkids. He beamed with pride watching his grandkids play and compete in sports. Johnny was proud of the accomplishments of his children and overjoyed with pride of the successes of his grandchildren.
Johnny lived his last years traveling and enjoying his retirement with his partner Evita. They traveled to many places together including Bali, Hawaii, Greece, The Philippines, Europe, Mexico, Israel, and an Alaskan Cruise. Johnny and Evita would sing together and dance cha-cha at parties. Evita was an excellent caregiver to Johnny and always looked out for his well-being. She cared for him until the very end.
