Jon was born in Norwich, NY, the second of three sons born to Ron and Judy Faulkner. He
was raised in the village of Sherburne, NY until age 11. In 1977, his family moved to El Cajon, CA. He graduated from El Cajon Valley High School in 1984. Jon went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State University.
For 35 years, Jon built a remarkable career at Target, serving primarily as an HR manager—a role that benefited from his genuine warmth, his fairness, and the easy humor he brought into everyday moments. In the final five years of his working life, he continued his professional journey at the San Diego State University Research Foundation, carrying forward the same reliability and care that defined his long tenure.
Jon was married for 31 years to Yvonne, and together they shared 37 years side by side. He was a loving father to daughter Candace, and a proud Nonno to grandson Owen, valuing family with a steady, generous heart and a deep sense of devotion.
Paraplegic since the age of 18, Jon never allowed that reality to define the limits of his life. Instead, he met challenges with self-reliance and resolve, moving forward with a spirit that remained bright, engaged, and unafraid to seek out what mattered most.
Jon’s love of life showed in the way he embraced the world beyond routine. He and Yvonne were relentless international travelers, embarking on multiple trips most years. He followed sports with true enthusiasm—especially as a devoted Dodger fan and a supporter of San Diego State basketball. He delighted in trivia and board games, drawn to the joy of friendly competition and shared laughter. A true foodie, Jon also appreciated good wine, savoring the simple pleasure of a great meal and a well-chosen glass. He was a terrific chef, and loved preparing meals in his home for family and friends.
Jon was predeceased by mother Judy, father Ron, and brother Chris. He is survived by wife Yvonne, daughter Candace, son-in-law Ryan, and grandson Owen, as well as brother Blaine, sister-in-law Danielle, niece Chloe, and nephew Noah.
Jon’s outlook could be summed up in his favorite quote: “I'd rather ask for forgiveness than permission.” It was a line that captured his independent streak and his willingness to step forward with confidence—often with a grin, and always with heart.
