Jose F. Gomez was an amazing, loving, silly and generous son, bother, husband, father and friend. He will be missed by many including his wife of 38 years, Rosa Gomez. Jose will also be missed by his children; Stephanie, Kristina and Jason along with his son in law Randy Moreno. Jose was also known as 'Papa' to Sabella, Samillah, and Santino, children of Eriana Buenrostro as well as Anailla, daugther or Myrna Navarro.
Jose was born on October 29, 1953 in Tijuana, Mexico son of Victoria and Aniceto Gomez. Jose grew up in Encinitas, California where he met his wife Rosa Maria Chavez at San Dieguito High School. They married in 1981 and in 1984 they purchased a home in San Diego.
Jose started working at General Atomics in 1978. He started in the maintenance department and worked his way into the Energy Group/ Nuclear technologies and materials department. Jose loved what he did and because of this he never retired. The family remembers him going to work on the weekends so that he could, "switch something out." He was dedicated to his job and even wanted to go back to work in September. Jose worked at General Atomics for 42 years.
Jose was an active member of St. Michaels Church in Paradise Hills. Jose served on the Latino Community Council under Father Ron. As the result of his great leadership and loyalty he was voted Grand Knight for two terms. In 2014-2015 he received the Star Council Award, Double Star. Jose was known to help the church in whatever was needed. His family recalls him going to church to see his, "Bros." Jose was the current Parish Council President of St. Michael, which he held for many years.
Jose loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking and running; most times he would be seen with his partner in crime, his 'Baby' Rosa. He loved sending selfies while on his runs at Rhor Park. Jose even completed the Rock and Roll Marathon in 2015. It was a goal he set for himself and he did it with flying colors. Jose also enjoyed going to concerts and plays. He was known for blasting the music at home while doing work on his 1951 Chevy truck or completing the Saturday 'Honey Do List' around the house.
Jose enjoyed having his family over. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. He loved telling stories to them and they loved hearing them. Sabella would say "Papa, tell me a story." Jose always told the story of his friends, Ketchup, Mustard and Tomato. Jose and the family are grateful to have Eriana and Myrna part of our lives as Jose loved them as his own.
Jose, Pops, Papa you will be forever missed everyday of our lives.
In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations be made to St. Michaels Church Capital Fund on behalf of Jose F. Gomez.
