Dear Uncle Joe, 
I will miss seeing you on your visits back home.   I always loved spending time with you and Janet.  I Loved listening to your talks and hear you laughing and loved your smiles.  You reminded me so much of my dad💕

Dear Uncle Joe,

I can only write this as if speaking to you. After all, as long as you’re in our hearts and minds, you are with us.

So many memories have flooded my mind - from when getting on the subway and going “uptown“ meant going to see you, Aunt Maddie, and Diane and Michelle - to the last time Nancy and I saw you and Janet in San Diego. 

I’ll always remember your smiling face, infectious laugh and silky dance moves. Your love of good food, good music, and good people was always face forward.

As I think back though, my strongest memories involve you and your brother Louis, our dad. Here’s one:
The first baseball game I remember attending in person was at Yankee Stadium. My dad brought me along to meet you and a bunch of cronies from St. Thomas. As we sat in the bleachers. I watched in awe as you , Dad, and all of your friends shouted, blew conch shells, danced, and beat on the railings - basically doing everything you could to get the attention of Horace Clark, a fellow Virgin Islander who was playing second base for the Yankees. 
You guys were like two little kids. I’d never seen my father like this!

As the years passed and miles grew between you and Dad, you were always quick to accept a ride to see your brother, lift his spirits, play a game of dominoes, make him laugh  and forget what he was going through. Thank you so much!

Thinking back, so many years ago, of your family trips back home to St Thomas brings back fond memories for all of us. What we all remember the most was your infectious laugh and jokes that just kept on coming. We were all so young back then, but we all enjoyed the family time spent on the beach when you and the family visited from New York over the summer months.

Rest In Peace Uncle Joe, you will be missed.

I sure wish I had more time swinging in the hammock with you on Water Island, helping you cook the biscuits at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Listening to your stories and enjoying our Carreon family time together will be greatly missed.

Our time together was too short. Your loving and warm smile will always remain in my memory.

My Dear Uncle Joe,
Thinking back of growing up and seeing you at all our family gatherings brings an immediate smile to my face.   I can hear your voice as I write this and can remember how you and my dad always had stories to tell about your Island life with your other brothers & sisters.  I also remember the banter when you were discussing general every day things.   Even when you disagreed on things you always managed to bring things back around with a witty retort or a completely silly comment and everyone would soon be laughing.  Your smile would light up any room you walked into.   As I got older I greatly appreciated all your cooking tips and loved watching you cook our many meals together.   My husband immediately got on with you and affectionately called you "Crazy Uncle Joe" cause you were always dancing & making us all laugh.  So time moved on and you became a huge support whenever you could to your older brother, my dad, as his health weakened.  Still bringing the laughs to others. Thanks for being my unique, kind, funny and thoughtful Uncle Joe.  God Bless

You always had a smile for me and everyone around you.  What I loved most about you was your love of life,  especially when it came to cooking.  You were a maestro in the kitchen,  making music with whatever was available.  And  I'll treasure the times we visited the local gambling establishment - at the end of the night your response was always the same,  "I won $20!" I have a feeling you'll fit right in now that you've crossed the pearly gates of Heaven.  God's kingdom has been enriched with your presence.  We'll see you soon little buddy.  God bless!

Uncle Joe was my father,  Louis Turbe's brother.   While they both came from a large family in St Thomas,  I think they had a special bond because they both ended up in New York raising their families and making their way in the world. 

While I loved Uncle Joe for all the obvious reasons...his joy for living, his infectious happiness, his cooking skills...I loved him the most for looking after my Dad when he took ill, even if it meant traveling all the way to New Hampshire.   Cooking him a meal,  playing dominoes or just listening,  it all meant so much to us all. 

Joe was one of a kind and will be missed greatly.
