Josie Mayor Alaysa

January 12, 1948October 5, 2020

On Monday evening, October 5th, 2020, it was with sweet sorrow for the family to announce that, Josie Mayor Alaysa, passed away peacefully at the age of 72. Josie Mayor Alaysa was born on January 12, 1948 in Santa Cruz, Zambales, Philippines to Jose and Leogarda Mayor. She was an older sister to four: Daniel, Naty, Ellen, and Lilia. Josie was also raised by her Ninang Maria and Ninong Anselmo Monsalud in Baguio City, Philippines. She grew up as an older cousin to five: Arce, Hector, Victor, Aida, and Agnes. At age 22, on March 11, 1970, she married her beloved Eddie Rabang Alaysa. On June 14, 1971, at the age of 23, Josie received her Bachelor's Degree of Science in Elementary Education from Saint Louis University, Baguio City, Philippines. She was a Chinese Elementary School teacher for two years for the third grade. Still at the age of 23, on September 25, 1971, Josie was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Jody Marie Alaysa; and at the age of 25, she was blessed again with a handsome son, Eddie Alaysa Jr. Together, Josie and Eddie Sr., as a military family, moved from the Philippines to Hawaii, then to Lemoore. They eventually settled in beautiful sunny San Diego, California. For the last 32 precious years of her life, Josie was able to share those years with the addition of five family members under her family tree including, one son-in-law: Juan Fernando Vasquez, three grandchildren: Kaylana Marie Mayor-Alaysa Doctor, Marco Antonio Vasquez, and Alexis Renee Vasquez, and lastly one grandson-in-law: Aaron Reotutar Doctor. Throughout Josie's dear life, her family believes there are two great qualities her family and her friends will remember her by: her beautiful singing voice and the gift of having a green thumb for gardening. Josie believed that with practice you could be good at anything and she proves this with this brief narrative about her life: During her youth, Josie practiced dance, but quickly got into singing, and eventually became a well known female crooner and choir member for the Santa Cruz Academy High School in the Philippines. During and after High School, she became a singer for a band called - Misses Cespedis. The Misses Cespedis band one day had an adventurous opportunity to go to Olongapo, Philippines to perform. However, her father prohibited it. In later years, when Josie came to America, she continued her passion for singing by becoming a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church choir where her loud beautiful voice was easily heard even at great distance when attending mass. When Josie became a mother, gardening seemed only like a hobby, but manifested into another passion. Her passion for gardening certainly showed through the surrounding gardens of her exterior home filled with her favorite roses, lilies, orchids, and fruit trees such as calamansi, guava, loquat, papaya, persimmon, and pomelo, that she loved to share. Throughout her life since her 20’s, Josie's talents and passion for singing and gardening never stopped. These memories of Josie, we will cherish and remember forever. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23rd, 2020, at the Glenn Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary on 3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA 91902 at 11:30am. Flowers or donations may be sent to 968 Sullivan Court, Chula Vista, CA 91911.
