In the middle World War II, John and his twin sister Annetta were born at Mercy Hospital in San Diego. They were twins of a Marine father from Louisiana and a San Diego native mother. His Great - Grandfather Frank Peirce Clough brought the family from Minnesota in 1908. The family were Charter Members of the First Presbyterian Church in San Diego. His Grandfather Frank Clough was an engineer. Frank did designing and Engineering for Glen Abbey in 1922. John inherited many of his well know values from his wonderful family.
John grew up in the Clairemont neighborhood. He,with his brother Donald ,were part of the first graduating class at Clairemont High in 1962. While he was in High School, he started attending First Pres in San Diego and soon discovered serving and helping others brought him great satisfaction. He met his wife Connie, during this time. They found helping others brought them wonderful friendships and joy throughout their life.
John joined the Marine Corps in 1965 as a Private. He was a leader in every way and the well-being of those he worked with was his guiding force. He was a fluff and buff Marine, but he was a Marine to the bone for 36 years. He went from Pvt. to LT Col. in his career.
Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, he discovered volunteering and helping others at Horizon Church and Horizon Prep School in Rancho Santa Fe, CA kept him filled and full of contentment. He loved serving the kids at Prep and keeping an eye on them. They fondly called him the "Col".
He was the father of John W. Bloodworth III, of Coronado, CA and Kathy J. George, of Centerville, IN. Kathy and Ryan George gifted John with two beautiful grand-children: Brantley M.S. George and Addison K. M. George. They have filled his life with immense joy and love.
A graveside service for Lieutenant Colonel John will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, California 91902.
