

Lourdes Mendoza Libed, age 92, peacefully passed away in her home on Monday, March 3, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 5, 1932, to Pedro and Lourdes Mendoza in Bulacan, Philippines, where she grew up alongside her siblings, Pedro Mendoza Jr, Rosario Mendoza, and Leony Hipolito.
In 1956, she became a Carmelite nun, where she continued to devote the rest of her life to the Catholic faith.
She met the late Eleuterio Libed while residing in the Philippines, when they eventually married in 1966. They moved to Key West, FL. then Guam, finally settling down in San Diego, CA. with their two children.
During her free time, she loved to cook for family and loved ones. She was known for spending hours in her garden of orchids and working on various crochet and sewing projects. She enjoyed fishing and watching her grandsons’ baseball games.
Lourdes is survived by her kids: daughter, Mary-Jo, and son-in-law Edgar Asuncion, alongside her son, Jon, and daughter-in-law, Katherine Libed. Known affectionately as Nanay, she leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Josephine and Brendan Asuncion, and Christopher, Nico, and Noah Libed.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lourdes’ life at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, where she will be resting in the Magnolia Room. Visitation services are on Tuesday, March 25th and Wednesday, March 26th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a vigil starting at 6:00 PM on Wednesday.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27th, beginning at 1:00 PM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 2643 Homedale St, San Diego, CA 92139. The service will conclude at her final resting place at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.
Lourdes will be remembered for her unconditional love and kindness bestowed upon her family and friends.
