

He grew up in Yakima, Washington and shared many of his childhood experiences with his brother Jim Cothern and sister Leslie Cothern. On August 14, 2004 he married Graciela Flores at The Little Chapel of The Roses in Bonita, California.
Over time, Lowell's family has grown to include 3 biological children and 3 step children in addition to 3 grandchildren.
Lowell served honorably in the Navy, obtaining the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E9). After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Lowell went on to work in the civil service for Ansel LLC and Gryphon Technologies as a consultant field engineer from 1999 to the present.
In addition to his busy family and professional lives, Lowell liked to practice martial arts. He obtained the title of Grandmaster of Kuntaw Legacy Filipino Martial Arts (9th Degree Black Belt), this is known as "The Filipino Art Of Hand And Foot Fighting".
He was also into classic cars and was an avid Harley rider. Lowell lost his brave battle with cancer on September 3, 2013 in San Diego, California.
He is survived by his spouse, Graciela, his mother, Artie, his sister, Leslie, his children Jeffrey Cothern (son), Bud Cothern (son), Samantha Cothern (daughter), Ishmael Meza (stepson), Daniel Meza (stepson), Luis Meza (stepson) along with this grandchildren and numerous friends.
His funeral services were be held at The Little Chapel of The Roses at Glen Abbey in Bonita, California on Monday September 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. He was interred at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California immediately following the funeral services.
