

Luisa Durian Garmsen, known affectionately as “Mama Lu”, passed away on May 3rd, 2024 in Chula Vista, at the age of 87. She was born on August 25th, 1936, in Solana, Cagayan, Philippines, to Lorenzo and Ceferina Durian.
Luisa was a retired government employee in the Philippines before starting a second career as an attendance clerk at Pomona School District. She pursued higher education at Cagayan Teachers College, and attended Solana South Central Primary School and Cagayan High School.
She was a devoted Catholic, and enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, reading, cooking, and taking leisurely walks.
Luisa will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her surviving family, including her daughters Meg Berny and Gabrielle Golden, sons-in-law Michael Berny and Evan Golden, granddaughters Kaitlin Berny and Isabelle Golden, siblings Martha Cuevo, Helen Amigable, Lydia Durian, Cynthia Daquial, Enrique Durian, Alexandra Ramos, George Durian, Sofia de Asis, as well as their spouses, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Maria Marallag, Eduardo Durian, Lorenzo Durian, and Remedios Natividad.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Luisa’s life will be held at Glen Abbey in Bonita, CA. The compassionate staff at Glen Abbey Funeral Home is assisting the family during this difficult time.
Luisa will be remembered for her generosity, nurturing spirit, hard working ethic, love for her family, and kindness that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
