Lynn served his country honorably as a United States Marine, and Purple Heart recipient, embodying the core values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. After his service, he continued his dedication to his family and the community as a loyal postal worker, coach, Boy Scout leader, and umpire; where he was known for his dependable presence, encouraging words and sense of humor. He was also a proud member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and American Postal Workers Union.
His greatest love story began after the battlefield, initially through letters exchanged with his “pen pal”, Catherine Sadowy. That written connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership on November 29, 1969, and spanned over 55 years of marriage.
Lynn and Cathy built a beautiful life together, raising three children, Rebeccalynn (Edward), Dwayne (Lee) and Derrik who in-turn gifted them with six adoring grandchildren Stephen, Rachel, Mitchell, Avalyn, Josh and Opal. Lynn’s walks and belly rubs will be missed by his many four-legged grandchildren. Family was always at the heart of everything Lynn did; whether it was spending time with his immediate family or his many “adopted” children, grandchildren and special friends. Lynn loved life! He enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams, teaching his grandkids how to swing a club, sharing stories from his youth and mowing his lawn.
Lynn leaves behind a legacy of service, family values, and love. Lynn will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Visitation and a celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Monday, May 5th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Glen Abbey Orchid Pavilion, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.
A committal service will follow on Tuesday, May 6th, at 10:15 AM at Miramar National Cemetery, where Lynn will be laid to rest with military honors rendered in recognition of his service to our country.
At the family’s request, please no formal attire for the visitation and interment, casual attire and cheerful colors are encouraged. The family would appreciate memorials to be made to Mission Hospice, 2365 Northside Drive, Suite 120, San Diego, CA 92108 or a local Hospice of your choice.
