

Manuel Jose Pacheco, 80, of San Diego, CA, passed away on August 3, 2024. Born on July 16, 1944, in San Diego, CA, Manuel dedicated 47 years of his life as a longshoreman with ILWU Local 29, where he notably ran the San Diego Bulk Terminal for 12 years and later served as a dock boss. After his retirement, he continued leading as the Longshoreman Retiree’s President.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Manuel served his country for four years, including combat in the Vietnam War, where he was honored with a Purple Heart for his bravery.
Manuel was a deeply spiritual man, actively involved at South Bay Pentecostal Church in ministry, leadership, and was a graduate of Christian Service Training Institute. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and relationships. He was a prince of a man who cherished God and his family above all, giving generously of his time and resources. Known for his quiet yet profound expression of love, Manuel was a romantic and devoted husband to his wife and queen Jacqueline for nearly 50 years, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a father figure to many beyond his immediate family.
He leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline Pacheco; children, John Phillip Moreno, Yvette Denise Moreno, and Anthony Albert Moreno; sisters, Carol Gallegos and Monica Adams; along with fifteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Adolpho and Maria Riveroll; siblings, Mary Patricia Conyers and William Adrian Pacheco; son, James Steven Moreno; and mother-in-law, Sophie Leyba.
A Legacy of Love Celebration will be held on August 28, 2024, at 10:00 am at South Bay Pentecostal Church, 395 D Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910. Following the service, a Military Honors Burial will take place at 1:00 pm at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122.
