

Mrs. Maralu B. Atwell was born on November 3, 1928 to Murel Baker and Wilma Marie Freed in Paoli, Indiana. She was raised in Louisville, Kentucky with her only brother, Harold Baker. She graduated from high school in Louisville and later continued her education by attending Southwestern College.
At a young age, Maralu met and fell in love with Mr. William L. Atwell Sr. and the couple exchanged wedding vows on October 29, 1948. The wedding took place at Chula Vista Baptist Church in Chula Vista, California. Maralu and William formed their new home together and were blessed with four sons, Blaine, William Jr., Jeff, and Bruce. Later in life, Maralu was blessed with the joy of eight grandchildren, Brooke, Brock, William III, Brianne, Taylor, Connor, Blayne and Victoria.
Maralu enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, she worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career as an Office Manager with the state of California, Cal OSHA.
Religion was a vital aspect of Maralu’s life and she took much joy in serving the church. She was a Church Deaconess and served on multiple church committees. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and played the organ at Highland Avenue Baptist Church for over 20 years.
Maralu enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in a number of different activities, including playing the piano, organ and violin, oil painting, knitting, cake decorating, bowling and traveling. She was always happy and willing to share her interests with others.
Mrs. Maralu B. Atwell left us on November 13, 2011. She passed away in San Diego, California after fighting a brave battle against liver cancer (Hepatocellar Carcinoma). She is survived by her children William Atwell, Jeff Atwell and Bruce Atwell; her daughter in laws Michele Atwell, Patti Konishi and Laura Atwell; her grandchildren Brooke Atwell, Brock Atwell, William Atwell III, Brianne Atwell, Taylor Konishi, Connor Konishi, Blayne Atwell and Victoria Archer; her sister in laws Carol Baker and Irma Atwell her nephews and nieces John Atwell, Jim Atwell, Tommy Atwell, Mickey Baker, Beverly Wheatly, Cindy Rose, JR Baker; and her cousins Art Love, Shirley Daugherty and Beth Ann Boyer. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A funeral service was held at The Little Chapel of the Roses in on November 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.. Maralu was laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
