Marcia Ann Boyer, born September 10, 1953, was the youngest child of Ernie and Evelyn Boyer. She was born at home on a farm near Rodman, Iowa, and lived in Iowa until her parents moved to California in 1966. She was married to Terry Miller in 1975 and they had two beautiful children, David and Beckie.
Marcia is survived by her two children, David Miller (Ashley) of Long Beach, and Beckie Krieghauser (Josh) of Descanso; four grandchildren, Isaac, Noah, Penny and Easton; siblings Bonnie Browne (Bud) of Springfield, Missouri; Betty Leners (Richard) of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Wayne Boyer (Yvonne) of Harris, Iowa; Karen Garrido (John) of El Cajon, California; and John Boyer (LuAnne) of National City, California, her loving uncle Cliff Boyer (Marge), Terry Miller (Marce), lifelong friends Harry and Donna Dockery and many endearing cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Francis Boyer.
She believed in hard work and determination and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Southern California College while working in the college office. After graduating from SCC, Marcia was hired by Point Loma University Administrative Offices, where she was highly regarded by all. Following her service at Point Loma College, she held a position with the Federal Government as an Employee Relations Specialist, a job that she truly enjoyed. During her tenure there, she received multiple awards for efficiency and innovation.
In later years, when physical limitations did not allow her to attend classes, she reached out to friends and family to acquire new skills. She was learning Spanish and loved practicing words and phrases with anyone who would join in with her. She loved worship music and was part of the Vanguard Traveling Chorale while at Southern California College. Her love of music brought Marcia a new challenge of learning to play the keyboard through telephonic lessons from her lifelong friend, Laquetta. She also held a real estate license.
Her beautiful smile and fun-loving, joyful spirit were her trademarks, even through the most difficult of times, and her faith in Jesus Christ carried her through each day. Her love for people of all ages and walks of life endeared her to everyone she met. Each would feel her outgoing and friendly personality, which always included a smile that could melt anyone’s heart.
One of Marcia’s greatest accomplishments was leading Vacation Bible School and children’s programs at church. Her enthusiasm made everything fun and there was never room for anything but the best effort for the kids. Filled with original skits and songs, fun activities and team competitions, she taught how faith in Christ would make a positive difference in their lives that nothing else could ever match.
Marcia’s greatest joy in life was her family. The days when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren were the best of times. There were always hugs and laughter and smiles and endless “I Love You’s,” along with words of encouragement for each one.
She was never too busy or tired or ill to listen and encourage others. A kind word always followed her wise counsel. She was beautiful and fun, amazing, loving and endearing and will be remembered for the joy and happiness she brought to others that were changed for the better because of her.
