

Margaret "Maggie" Arveson passed away in Chula Vista, CA after a short lung infection. She was born in Los Angeles in 1915. She was graduated from Merritt College of Nursing in Oakland and worked as an RN wherever she lived. She was the wife of Merchant Marine Captain C. H. Arveson. She has lived in San Francisco, Oakland, Spokane Washington, Indiana, Louisiana, and Virginia. Maggie moved with her husband the late C. H. Arveson to Chula Vista in 1965. Maggie loved and enjoyed people. She worked at the Birch-Patrick Convalescent Center and then at Fredericka Convalescent Hospital in Chula Vista for 18 years. She volunteered as a docent at the San Diego Maritime Museum and the Norman Park Senior Center, where she served as its President in 1989. She also volunteered on the Ladies Auxiliary at Sharp Memorial Hospital. She was awarded the Rob Norris award, the highest award of the Eastern Star. At Fredericka Manor retirement center she served on the Hospitality Committee and participated in many kinds of programs and classes, including fundraising, golf, and gardening. She was a member of Chula Vista Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon there. Her 100th birthday was celebrated with a plaque from the Mayor of Chula Vista, among many other accolades. Then she went on to celebrate eight more happy birthdays!
Survivors are son Paul, his wife Kathleen, two granddaughters Genevieve Sogn and Irene Chrismer (who are also nurses), and four great-grandchildren Ethan, Charlotte, Benjamin and Emmett, all of whom live in Maryland.
