Margaret Olsen Satterthwaite, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at her cherished home in National City, CA. Her departure on Valentine’s Day is a fitting tribute to the immense love and kindness she shared with everyone she knew.
Born on March 2, 1931, in Iona, Idaho, Margaret was the eldest child of Mazel Lords Olsen and Wilford K. Olsen. Raised in a home filled with love and hard work, she was deeply influenced by the unwavering strength of her mother and the gentle integrity of her father. She grew up surrounded by family, forming especially strong bonds with her grandmother, Ingaborg Holmquist, and her Aunt Edna Olsen, whose kindness and unconditional love remained with her throughout her life.
Margaret's early years were marked by resilience and adaptability as her family moved from Iona, Idaho to Kaysville, Utah, due to the war. Despite the hardships of leaving her childhood home and loved ones, she carried with her a deep sense of family and faith. She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, and worked various jobs before meeting the love of her life, Cecil Thane Satterthwaite, a handsome Navy sailor. Their love story was one of deep connection and devotion, leading to their marriage on March 20,1950.
As a Navy wife, Margaret embraced the challenges of military life, raising five children—Stephen, Robin, Kimberly, Kristine, and Karen—while moving across the country. From Maryland, Virginia, San Diego, to Hawaii and back to San Diego, she created a loving home wherever they were stationed. Her time in Hawaii held a special place in her heart, as it was there that she strengthened her faith and built lifelong friendships.
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Margaret dedicated countless hours to serving in Relief Society, Young Women’s program, and at the San Diego Temple. She was known for her unwavering compassion, selflessness, and ability to make everyone feel valued. Whether delivering homemade soup and bread to those in need or offering words of comfort, she lived a life of service and love.
Margaret's greatest joy was her family. Blessed with 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, she had a unique way of making each one feel special, as if they were her "favorite." She treasured family gatherings, from intimate meals around her table to large reunions filled with love and laughter.
Margaret is now reunited with her beloved husband, Cecil Thane, and other cherished family members who preceded her in death. She will be laid to rest in Bear Lake, Garden City, Utah.
Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue through the countless lives she touched.
Margaret, you will always be loved and missed. Thank you for your unwavering love, your example of selflessness, and the beautiful memories you left behind.
