On the morning of Friday, July 21st, 2023, our mother, Margarita Velasco passed away at the age of 84. While her health had been in decline, the truth of the matter was that she deeply missed the love of her life, our father, Luis, who had passed in February of this year. Their marriage of 64 years will remain a touchstone for our family for the years to come.
While her greatest joy came from caring for her husband and family, she also had an imaginative soul. Her creative outlets were fashion, the decoration of her house (which her husband built for her) and… singing. From her time as 1st Soprano in her high school choir to her afternoons and evenings of karaoke, she was never so happy as when she could express herself in song. As with our father, her thoughts were always about how she could help her family, friends, and the assorted Aussies, Theatre Types, and strays her kids brought home. To them all, she was a lovely and loving spirt… charming, gentle, honest, and always willing to listen. She took pride in the accomplishments of the family and friends she helped along the way.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support in these past weeks and the days that will come. She touched many lives and will continue to do so by the example set for us all. She is survived by her two sons (Gabriel and Javier), daughter in law (Minerva). and grandchildren (Sophia, Zachary, Gavin and Jacob), as well as their spouses and children. In lieu of flowers or cards or donations to specific charities, we encourage everyone to actively make a difference in the lives of those you love. As Margarita and Luis did.
A celebration of life for Margarita will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Glen Abbey Chapel of Roses, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. The celebration itself will begin at 6 pm.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.glenabbeysandiego.net for the Velasco family.
