Maria Lagance Gantala was born on October 20, 1936 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Vitaliana Lagance and Dalmacio Gantala. She was a beloved sister to six siblings. She is survived by her brother, Mariano Gantala and sister, Feliciana Gantala Malvar. She was preceded in death by her parents and her predeceased siblings: Gorgonio Gantala, Bernardino Gantala, Eladio Gantala, and her sister, Marcaria Gantala De Guzman.
Though Maria never married or had children of her own, her life was abundantly rich with love and devotion to her family. Maria worked as a hotel housekeeper throughout her life in Hawaii, San Diego, California, and New York. But she primarily dedicated herself tirelessly, as a primary caregiver, to her siblings, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, selflessly providing unwavering support, guidance, and a loving presence in their lives. Her kindness knew no bounds, and she touched countless hearts with her compassionate spirit.
Maria was known for her warm sense of humor, delicious cooking, love of gardening, and her true dedication in solving numerous books of word search puzzles. She found immense joy in watching any sports, but was a devoted San Diego Padres fan. And any chance she was able to attend, she would be cheering on her nieces and nephews at their sporting events. Her legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will forever be cherished and missed by those whose lives she impacted so deeply.
A celebration of Maria's life will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 4:00 – 9:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kaneohe, Hawaii on August 11, 2025.
