Maria A. Mantanona

Maria A. Mantanona passed away peacefully at age 86 on April 27, 2023 surrounded by her daughters. Maria was born on April 10, 1937 to Juan & Concepcion Aquiningoc. She was the fifth child out of eleven children.

In 1958, she married Gonzalo Naputi Mantanona and was blessed with four children Fred, Cherie, Denise and Cindy. Maria for the most part was a homemaker. Until her youngest began junior high school (aka middle school these days) at that time she began working at the 32nd Street Navy Exchange. There she was a supervisor and truly loved her job and the people she worked with. Always making lunch not just for herself but to share with her co-workers. She became a surrogate mom/aunt to many of her young workers. She retired from the Navy Exchange in 1992.

In 1993, along with her husband and daughter Denise they relocated to Washington State to enjoy her retirement in a state with clean air, however, San Diego has always been called home to her.

Maria is survived by her son Fred (Olivia) of San Marcos, CA, daughters Cherie (Manuel) of Lacey, WA, and Cindy (Anselmo) of Spring Valley, CA and one brother Manuel Aquiningoc of Santa Rita, Guam. Also we cannot forget her partner in crime and best friend her daughter Denise “Nesi” Mantanona of Lacey, WA. But especially her grandkids Joshua Sablan and Meadow Denise Delino.

She now joins her husband who was the love of her life.
