

Masako Bailey, 87, of National City, CA, passed away on Friday, January 25th, at her home in Paradise Village. She was known as Alice, a nickname given her by her supervisor when she worked as a telephone operator in the 1950’s on a US military base in Japan.
Masako taught silk painting (also known as Pentex) for 50+ years, and often held exhibitions at Balboa Park and other venues in San Diego. She was an active member of Ikebana International San Diego Chapter, Sogetsu, and The Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego. She was awarded the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her outstanding and invaluable service to the community, a Japanese Culture Award for Pentex Art from the Japan-US Center Women's Forum, San Diego, and Special Commendation presented by the Mayor of San Diego.
Masako is survived by her daughters Patricia Ledoux and Arlene Lazzarini, granddaughters Jacqueline Ledoux and Stephanie Ledoux, and siblings in Japan, Kinko, Nobuko, Mitsuko and Taketoshi.
The memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Roses at Glen Abbey Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA 91902 at 1:00 PM on February 18, 2013. Service will be open to the public.
