Merida Kendrick Monk, Jr.

age​ ​of​ ​87.​ ​​ ​He​ ​is​ ​survived​ ​by​ ​his​ ​daughter​ ​and​ ​son​ ​in​ ​law​ ​Vickie​ ​and​ ​Dan​ ​Ball​ ​(Chula​ ​Vista),

daughter​ ​and​ ​son​ ​in​ ​law​ ​Kristi​ ​and​ ​Vito​ ​Triola​ ​(Chula​ ​Vista),​ ​and​ ​daughter​ ​Dee​ ​Ann​ ​Monk

(Bonita).​ ​​ ​Also​ ​6​ ​grandchildren,​ ​6​ ​great-grandchildren,​ ​and​ ​1​ ​great-great​ ​grandchild.

He​ ​is​ ​preceded​ ​in​ ​death​ ​by​ ​his​ ​wife​ ​of​ ​52​ ​years​ ​Mildred​ ​Hickman​ ​Monk,​ ​and​ ​his​ ​son​ ​Michael​ ​K.

Monk.

Ken​ ​was​ ​born​ ​in​ ​Augusta,​ ​Georgia​ ​on​ ​January​ ​5,​ ​1929​ ​to​ ​Merida​ ​K.​ ​Monk,​ ​Sr.​ ​and​ ​Opal​ ​Monk.

He​ ​enlisted​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Navy​ ​after​ ​high​ ​school​ ​and​ ​was​ ​stationed​ ​in​ ​San​ ​Diego.​ ​​ ​He​ ​served​ ​in​ ​the

Korean​ ​War​ ​and​ ​worked​ ​under​ ​the​ ​Admiral​ ​as​ ​a​ ​communications​ ​reader.​ ​​ ​After​ ​his​ ​time​ ​in​ ​the

service​ ​he​ ​met​ ​Mildred​ ​Hickman​ ​at​ ​a​ ​ballroom​ ​dance.​ ​They​ ​married​ ​in​ ​1952​ ​and​ ​settled​ ​in​ ​Bonita

where​ ​he​ ​lived​ ​in​ ​the​ ​same​ ​house​ ​for​ ​60​ ​years.​ ​​ ​He​ ​was​ ​a​ ​car​ ​salesman​ ​and​ ​worked​ ​his​ ​way​ ​to

General​ ​Manager​ ​for​ ​30​ ​years,​ ​and​ ​retired​ ​as​ ​partner​ ​of​ ​Pearson​ ​Ford​ ​at​ ​the​ ​age​ ​of​ ​55.

After​ ​retirement​ ​Ken​ ​spent​ ​his​ ​time​ ​growing​ ​a​ ​beautiful​ ​organic​ ​garden​ ​in​ ​which​ ​he​ ​would​ ​invite

family,​ ​friends,​ ​and​ ​even​ ​strangers​ ​to​ ​come​ ​and​ ​pick​ ​fruits​ ​and​ ​vegetables.​ ​​ ​He​ ​played​ ​golf​ ​twice​ ​a

week​ ​and​ ​had​ ​season​ ​tickets​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Padres​ ​for​ ​many​ ​years.​ ​​ ​He​ ​was​ ​also​ ​a​ ​season​ ​ticket​ ​holder

and​ ​faithful​ ​fan​ ​to​ ​the​ ​San​ ​Diego​ ​Chargers​ ​since​ ​1969.​ ​​ ​Most​ ​of​ ​all​ ​Ken​ ​loved​ ​to​ ​spend​ ​time​ ​with

his​ ​family​ ​in​ ​his​ ​home.​ ​​ ​He​ ​had​ ​an​ ​open​ ​door​ ​policy​ ​with​ ​everyone​ ​who​ ​would​ ​stop​ ​by​ ​and​ ​listen​ ​to

his​ ​long​ ​stories​ ​and​ ​funny​ ​jokes.​ ​​ ​He​ ​loved​ ​life​ ​and​ ​people.​ ​​ ​Ken​ ​was​ ​a​ ​unique​ ​unforgettable

person​ ​who​ ​will​ ​be​ ​missed​ ​by​ ​all.

Services​ ​will​ ​be​ ​Wednesday​ ​October​ ​26th​ ​1pm​ ​at​ ​the​ ​Little​ ​Chapel​ ​of​ ​Roses​ ​Glenn​ ​Abbey.​ ​​ ​Pastor

Jeff​ ​Brawner​ ​will​ ​officiate​ ​the​ ​ceremony.​ ​​ ​Reception​ ​to​ ​follow​ ​at​ ​The​ ​Bonita​ ​Golf​ ​Club
