Ken was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 5, 1929 to Merida K. Monk, Sr. and Opal Monk.
He enlisted in the Navy after high school and was stationed in San Diego. He served in the
Korean War and worked under the Admiral as a communications reader. After his time in the
service he met Mildred Hickman at a ballroom dance. They married in 1952 and settled in Bonita
where he lived in the same house for 60 years. He was a car salesman and worked his way to
General Manager for 30 years, and retired as partner of Pearson Ford at the age of 55.
After retirement Ken spent his time growing a beautiful organic garden in which he would invite
family, friends, and even strangers to come and pick fruits and vegetables. He played golf twice a
week and had season tickets to the Padres for many years. He was also a season ticket holder
and faithful fan to the San Diego Chargers since 1969. Most of all Ken loved to spend time with
his family in his home. He had an open door policy with everyone who would stop by and listen to
his long stories and funny jokes. He loved life and people. Ken was a unique unforgettable
person who will be missed by all.
Services will be Wednesday October 26th 1pm at the Little Chapel of Roses Glenn Abbey. Pastor
Jeff Brawner will officiate the ceremony. Reception to follow at The Bonita Golf Club
