Michael and I were best of friends in the 9th grade.....1963 and '64 at the San Miguel School.
He returned to public school the following year, and we lost touch.
I saw him just by chance at San Diego State in 1972; just turned a corner and there he was!
Was stunned to find him in a wheelchair, and he told me his story about the accident.
I moved to New England in 1974, and did not ever see Mike again.
In 2011 and called him out of the blue and we shared a great telephone chat, with a few more in the following months.
Mike sent me the nicest letter on November 5, 2012 saying how much our friendship had meant 40 years previously, and how much he enjoyed our phone calls during the previous months.
I just learned that he died less than two months after sending that letter.
I always remember Mike as a popular, fun loving, good natured, handsome 9th grader.
He was passionate about girls, playing football, and smoking cigarettes... not so much about studying Latin.
I was a frequent guest at his parents' Bonita home, where he always killed me shooting pool downstairs.
I just plain liked him very much many years ago, and am sorry that he has passed away.
I send personal regards to his sister, and other family members.

Michael's wonderful personality and bright smile will be sorely missed.  In spite of his health, he always had a positive word and outlook.  I wish I had more time to spend with him.
