Minerva Marcaida Ignacio

Minerva Marcaida Ignacio was a beloved friend, cousin, sister, mother, and wife. To family and friends who knew her best, Minnie will always be remembered as a very exceptional, beautiful person inside and out. She never failed to draw a crowd amongst strangers with her vivacious personality and friendly smile.

Minnie was the daughter of Judge Milagros and Attorney Eduardo Marcaida and grew up in Masbate City. She was raised with four siblings: one younger brother, Eduardo III, and three younger sisters, Hilda, Anna Marie, and Milagros. The four of them were the best of friends always swimming in the sea on Saturdays and watching movies every Sunday. You couldn’t find one without the others in the province.

Minnie enjoyed her college years, as she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Philippine Women University. She also pursued graduate school, earning her Masters in Social Work. It comes to no surprise that Minnie was top ten in her Social Work board exam in the Philippines.

Always considered a good friend to those she knew, Minnie had so many friends she carried close to her throughout her lifetime. She also treated her extended family like her brothers and sisters who loved her like their own. She never failed to reach out and never forgot a birthday or a “good morning.” It is a true testament to her character and the love she shared with those around her.

Minnie was married to Victor C. Ignacio. Their love story was a whirlwind romance as a perchance meeting at a pool party in San Diego turned into Victor following Minnie across the states to Chicago, convincing her to move to San Diego, and eventually them getting married in Las Vegas on June 26, 1994. Minnie and Victor are blessed with one daughter, Isabel. Isabel and Minnie would often go out shopping and try new foods together. Minnie always wanted to try new things with her daughter and especially loved buying new flowers for her beautiful garden. Minnie was a wonderful mother, a loving wife, and completely dedicated herself to her family.

Minnie loved what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, she worked diligently and had a very successful career as an Executive Assistant. Minnie was employed for over 8 years by Ambu and was always willing to go above and beyond and do what was necessary to get the job done. Her contagious, welcoming positivity made it no surprise that she was absolutely adored by her boss and colleagues.

Minnie loved gardening and had the most wonderful backyard patio where she grew the tastiest dragon fruit and guava, which her family would often raid as they stopped by to visit. She enjoyed cooking for her family, taking photographs, and dancing to her favorite music. It wouldn’t be unusual to find her making kare kare while dancing to Miss Chatelaine.

Minnie was a parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church for over 20 years and a devotee to St. Padre Pio and Our Mother of Perpetual Help. She walked with God her entire life, and her devotion to Jesus was one to be admired. She would never miss a single prayer at night and always attended Sunday mass with her family.

Minnie passed away on September 19, 2022, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. She fought a brave battle against cancer. Minnie is survived by her husband, Victor, and her daughter, Isabel, and will be laid to rest in Glen Abbey Memorial Park in San Diego, California. Simply stated, Minnie touched the hearts of everyone around her and she will be missed.

A Visitation for Minerva will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at The Magnolia Room. A Funeral Mass will occur Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mater Dei Catholic Parish. A Committal Service will follow, Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Glen Abbey Memorial Park beginning at 11:30 AM.
