

Nelia Esguerra Olimpo was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Nelia will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Nelia was born on February 11, 1954 in Manila, Philippines. She was the daughter of Alfredo Esguerra and Rosario Alonzo. Nelia grew up in Caloocan, Philippines. Nelia was raised with six siblings. She had three sisters, Evelyn Canlas, Annabella Pastellero and Lily Bobilla, and three brothers, Virgilio Esguerra, Victor Esguerra and Alfredo Esguerra Jr. Nelia was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings shared many life experiences over the years.
A typical teenager, Nelia had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Arellano High School 1970. Nelia enjoyed her college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Nelia was able to manage the balancing act. She earned her Secretarial Certificate from vocational college, STI in 1972.
On the 19th of December, 1989, Nelia exchanged wedding vows with Alexander Olimpo at Metropolitan Trial Court Compound in Manila, Philippines. Empathic and loyal, Nelia was committed to making her new family happy. She was blessed with five children. Nelia worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. She had three daughters, Beverly, Marienell and Cyndi Rae, and two sons Michael and Jesse Patrick. Another blessing for Nelia was the gift of eight grandchildren.
Fortunately, Nelia enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Nelia worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was Medical Assistant. She was employed for five years. Nelia always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Nelia enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were cooking, singing, gardening, collecting jewelry and watching Filipino soap operas. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Nelia especially loved traveling to different countries, visiting with friends and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Nelia was a proud Grandmother of eight grandchildren. She also provided support to her siblings in the Philippines. Nelia helped her nieces and nephews with their schooling in the Philippines. She was a great and supportive friend to many, without asking anything in return. Through always putting the needs of others before herself, Nelia was truly selfless!
Nelia passed away due to a brain hemorrhage on August 31, 2013 in Chula Vista, California. She is survived by her husband Alexander Olimpo, her daughters Beverly Esguerra, Marienell Esguerra Narciso and Cyndi Rae Olimpo, her sons Michael Esguerra and Jesse Patrick Olimpo, and her grandchildren Issachar, Kaelah, Divine, A.J., Destiny, Lana, Calla and Malakai.
Services were held at Glen Abbey Mortuary Chapel, Bonita, California, Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, September 9, 2013, at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Dave Montajes, and Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, California, Monday, September 9, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Nelia was laid to rest in Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, California.
Simply stated, Nelia was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Nelia leaves behind her a legacy of a loving family, life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Nelia Esguerra Olimpo.
