Ofelia M. Tavares

Ofelia M. Tavares was a beautiful, kind and loving mother. A perfectionist when it came to her cooking. She was a little shy at times but set in her ways in a strong and firm manner. She was also a very giving woman.

She was born on March 31, 1929 in Phoenix, Arizona. In her childhood years she was raised in Hermosillo, Sonora. As a teenager she moved to Rose Canyon, San Diego, California, where she met and married Francisco R. Tavares in 1948, and had nine children: Laura, Freddy, Frank, Irma, Ernie, Virgie, Alicia, Leticia, Sandra, 30 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Ofelia M. Tavares came from a family of five siblings: Josefina, Armida, Ruben and Hector.

Ofelia worked hard to be a good mother to her children and did her best to fulfill their needs. She was committed to being the best home maker and a faithful housewife.

Ofelia spent her time by taking part in various hobbies like crocheting, knitting blankets, sweaters, booties and bonnets for the grandchildren and also the cabbage patch dolls. Ofelia's most favorite hobby of all was sneaking away with Francisco to buy lottery scratchers and trips to Vegas.

Ofelia spent her last days at home with all her family and dear loved ones. Enjoying the family with Mariachis and lots of food. She got to cherish her days with her five daughters who took very good care of her until she passed away on February 19, 2019. She is survived by her five daughters and two sons.

Services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chula Vista. Ofelia was laid to rest in Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.

Simply stated, Ofelia was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all times be remembered by her family and friends as being a kind and giving woman. Someone who was a big part of their lives.

Ofelia leaves behind her legacy of life - Long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone who knew her will always remember her tender touch and loving smile. We share with you the beautiful life of Ofelia M. Tavares.
