Obituary
Oscar Reynoso Gavieres, age 90, died peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2021. He is survived by Luz Vidal, his loving wife of 60 years; his son, Ruben (wife – Alicia); three grandchildren – Christopher (wife – Brittany), Joseph, and Sarah; and a great granddaughter, Emilia.
Oscar was born on October 9, 1930, in Pasig, Rizal, Philippines. He was the sixth of nine children of Manuel and Maria Gavieres. His siblings Norberta, Araceli, Pedro, Marcos, Eva, Manuel, and Francis are also deceased. His only surviving sibling, Rosa, lives in the Philippines.
Oscar served 20 years in the US Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer (ENC, SS). He was especially proud of his service as a diesel submariner and with the “Brownwater Navy” in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. Oscar’s son, Ruben, and grandson, Christopher, followed in Oscar’s footsteps of Naval service to our country.
After the Navy, Oscar repaired and maintained ships as an outside machinist for another 20 years before taking a well-earned retirement. He enjoyed his remaining years staying physically fit, relaxing at home with his wife, Luz, and staying in touch with close friends. Oscar’s family will fondly remember him as a man of unwavering integrity and complete devotion to his family, his country, and his Catholic faith..
