Oscar was born on April 14th, 1992, in Las Cruces, NM, to Virginia Sanchez and Juan Serna. He was raised in Las Cruces, NM, Lilburn, GA, and Spring Valley, CA, amongst a blended family. He attended Monte Vista High School and graduated early from Grossmont Middle College in the class of 2010. After high school, he began trade school to become a Casino Dealer. His passion for the trade led him to work as a Casino Dealer and later advance to the role of Dealer Instructor. He referred to the Casino as what he loved rather than simply what he did for work. In life, everything was a gamble, and the odds were always “fifty-fifty”, as he would say.
In the fall of 2014, Oscar became a father, welcoming to the world his “Gorda”, Amaya Serna. Two autumns later, he welcomed his second baby girl, Ariel Pria, his “Bubba”. He was a dedicated father who taught the importance of being your own boss. He created countless business opportunities, demonstrating first-hand the ‘hustle’ of an entrepreneur. Their father-daughter business ventures included, among others, The Snack Shack, “The Books”, and A+ Supplies.
Above all, Oscar loved his family and friends deeply. He always looked forward to the next chance to cook and laugh with the people he loved the most. Whether it be in New Mexico, California, Georgia, or beyond, his adventures were marked with his loved ones. Through his 33-year journey, he touched the lives of many with his generosity, imagination, and unwavering gypsy spirit. He was a devoted father, uncle, brother, and son who will be deeply missed.
Remaining to cherish Oscar’s memory are his daughters, Amaya Serna and Ariel Pria- “his oink-oinks”; parents, Virginia Sanchez and Juan Serna- “Ma and Pa”; step-mother, Esther Serna; siblings, Brandi “Biggie Smalls” Sanchez, Abrianna Dominguez, Victoria “Tori” Serna, Ester “Papitas” Serna, and Azarias “Chico” Serna; niece, Denaje “Miss Chunky” Mirabal; and nephews, Julian “Juju” Triste, Ian “Mr.Lobo” Serna, and Ezra “Mr.Papa” Serna.
Preceding him in death are his cousin, Jessica Denae Sanchez; his Grandfather, Rufino Serna; and his Great-Aunt, Sara Bridgeforth.
Funeral service will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, in the Magnolia Room, located at 3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA 91902 on November 28th, 2025 from 5:00pm to 8:30pm. A graveside service will take place at Glen Abbey Memorial Park on March 30, 2026 at 2:00 pm . In lieu of flowers, Oscar’s wish was for support to be directed to his daughters’ business funds. Donations will be accepted during the service or you can Zelle Juan Serna via 619-750-1785.
