Ralph was born in Santa Paula, California to Pedro and Petra Sarmiento. He had 4 brothers Serafin, Raul, Benny and Rueben. 3 sisters Sally, Liza and Margaret.
As a teenager Ralph worked the farms of northern California, picking fruit and vegetables with his parents, brother and sisters.
The family settled in National City where he went to Sweetwater High School. He wasn’t allowed to graduate because he had to enlist in the Army. Ralph was a World War 2 veteran and was proud to serve his country.
After being discharged from the service he went to work for John Hansen Construction where he worked for over 40 years. In 1955, he married Jeanne Hansen and they had 5 children.
Ralph was blessed with a beautiful family, 4 sons Richard, Edward, Michael and John and 3 daughters Lisa, Lori and Cynthia and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retirement Ralph opened his own used building material business with his wife Jeanne.
He enjoyed his 15 years business adventure and made lots of friends. Ralph was one of the founding members of the Paradise Hills VFW Post. He served as Commander for 2 terms and was a White Hat.
Ralph loved going to Swap Meets, garage and estate sales and thrift stores. He enjoyed collecting other people’s junk and adding it to his treasures. Ralph also loved buying jewelry from the Shopping Channel. He was a Hoarder!
Ralph will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
