Raymond Alington Slocum, II was born in Fort Belvoir, VA on August 11, 1953, and departed this life on August 1, 2025, in San Diego, CA. Surviving him are his beloved wife, Bernadette Slocum, two daughters, Brooke Menendez (born on August 28, 1978) and Loyana Martinez (born on September 18, 1980), siblings, Jo Ann Garland and Stephen Slocum, nieces and nephew, Dawn Christian, Kelly Perez and Rocco Promutico, II, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his niece, Kari Ann Promutico, and his great-niece, Allison Gibbs.
Raymond’s father, Raymond Alington Slocum, was a decorated U.S. Army veteran, and his mother, Stella W. Slocum, was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, which meant that his family often changed residences. They had resided in Fort Dix, NJ where Jo Ann was born, and then moved to the state in which Raymond was born. They then relocated to Fort Bragg, NC, followed by Fort Campbell, KY, after which they spent three years in Germany, where Stephen was born. They then moved to Manville, NJ, followed by Fort Dix, NJ, Omaha, NE, Kearney, NE, and finally San Diego, CA. After Raymond’s father retired, their family moved back to New Jersey to be closer to his mother’s family.
Raymond ultimately settled in San Diego, CA where he built his first home from the ground up, and was employed by General Dynamics. When General Dynamics closed in 1996, he began working at the San Diego Airport from which he eventually retired. On June 21, 2000, he married his wife of 25 years, Bernadette, where they together renovated and remodeled their two homes in San Diego. Raymond enjoyed spending time with Bernadette’s many sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, and also her mother and father, before they passed away.
