

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Richard F. Gans of Chula Vista, California, on Friday, July 14,2023. Richard passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family at the age of 91.
Born Friday, December 18,1931 in Somerville, Massachusetts, he was the devoted son to the late Clara (DesRoche) Parker. Richard was a warm, kind & compassionate son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Richard is the beloved husband for 60 years to Joyce (Conway) Gans. The devoted father to 3 sons; Richard JR, William, and Daniel. The cherished grandfather to Kelsey, Tyler, and Trevor. Richard is the dear brother to the late Geraldine O'Connell, Teresa True, and Claire Moore and the loving brother-in-law to the late Janet Bendinelli. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews & friends.
Richard was raised in Somerville, Massachusetts and.at age 19 he joined the U.S. Navy. Richard defended our freedom for 20 years and retired in 1971 as Chief Petty Officer. After serving our country, Richard settled in Chula Vista with his wife and raised their family. He worked for 25 years for the Naval Ship Yards, starting as a pipe fitter and working his way up to Navy Repair Manager, He finally retired in 1997.
Richard was a man who needed to keep busy. If he wasn't walking his dog, volunteering at the Imperial Beach Naval Base thrift store, you would find Richard tinkering in his tool shed known as “Papa's Cave,” orWorking'an home projects. Richard was the first to lend a helping hand to others, and he Became known as a handy man for many.
Richard had a way of lighting up any room he entered. He loved the old country music and when it was playing you would see his feet going to the beat of the music. Whenever he was around extended family everyone had smiles on their faces and were found laughing as they shared funny memories of the past. This for sure will be truly missed by all.
Family and Friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Richard's family on Thursday, July 27" from 5-9pm at Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary at The Chapel of the Roses, 3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita CA.
