Richard D. Harvey (Dick) passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 in his home in Bonita after a long illness with his wife and Chaplain Tom Davis at his bedside. Dick had a long history of emphysema along with heart problems. Dick was born to James and Cleo Harvey in National City in July 1927 and lived his entire life in the South Bay area.
Dick attended schools in National City and later attended Southwestern College. He joined the Army during World War 11 and after one tour of duty he re-enlisted for another tour. He worked at Rohr Aircraft and then North Island where he worked another 10 years. After North Island he became an entrepreneur, he open "The Plant Shack Nurser and Pool Supply". Dick was handy with all aspects of maintenance and built all the displays for the business. After several years in that business, he and Lee built the building now know as "Murietta's Restaurant" on Bonita Road.
Dick and Lee were married on June 15, 1973 and each brought 3 children to the family; Dick brought; David, Cathy and Judy and Lee brought her 3 children; Sherri, Lyle and Jeff to the fold. Dick was a wonderful father to all the children who are now grown with families of their own. Those six children have provided Dick with 8 grandchildren and 9 great grand children.
Dick is survived by this great family as well as his loving wife of 40 years and the many friends who have touched and shared his life along the way! He is also survived by his children's mother, Mildred, who has always been a part of our lives.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 9th, 2013 at the Chapel of Roses, Glen Abbey Memorial Park on Bonita Road at 1:00 p.m. Viewing from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chula Vista Municipal Golf Club on Bonita Road from 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the American Lung Association
