Richard Emil Linder, 85, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Queens, New York, on November 3, 1939, Richard went on to build a life defined by devotion to family, education, and lifelong learning.
Richard earned his Master of Science in Mathematics from San Diego State University, a degree that would guide the course of his professional life. He was a dedicated educator, teaching mathematics for 43 years at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, as well as part-time at San Diego State University. His students and colleagues will remember him for his patience, intelligence, and commitment to helping others succeed.
Outside the classroom, Richard had many passions. He was deeply interested in World War II history, traveled throughout Europe several times, and had a great love for dogs and nature—especially trees. Above all, he cherished time spent with family, whether sharing meals, watching movies, or enjoying Italian food together.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Janet Linder; his children, Melissa and Scott; and his three grandchildren, who brought him tremendous joy. He will be remembered as a loyal, hardworking, and supportive husband, father, and grandfather, whose steady presence and quiet strength will be deeply missed.
A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in his memory.
