Richard Raymond Weathers, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday March 18, 2018 at the age of 64. We are comforted in the knowledge that Richard is home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A loving Son and Brother, Richard was a nonmaterialistic man who never in his whole life met a stranger. He had a gift of talking with anyone, anywhere and making them smile. He understood that the most important things in life were the love of Family and concern for his fellow man, including the homeless to whom he often volunteered his time. A beautiful Sunset meant the world to him and he cherished them all.
Born to Maureen Iliff Fritzer and Richard Raymond Weathers, Sr. on May 31, 1953 in Berkeley, California, Richard graduated from Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley in the class of 1971. In that year he was named Monte Vista’s Most Valuable Athlete. He played Varsity Football, was a member of the Varsity Track Team and was a Champion Wrestler on the Wrestling Team. Richard earned an Associate Arts Degree from Grossmont College in 1973.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his Step father, Dick Fritzer. Dick was a very important figure in Richard’s life and they loved each other very much.
Richard and his brothers, Rip and Robbie Fritzer were very involved in Athletics from an early age. Being a protective, big brother to Rip and Robbie was a role he relished. He led by example and encouraged both to become star High School athletes. A fierce competitor and big, strong figure, Richard was an asset to every team he joined and helped Monte Vista High to qualify for the CIF Wrestling Championships in 1971.
His intensity and passion for sports later transitioned to compassion and as big and strong as he was, his nature was gentle, always calm, methodical and reasonable. It was Richard who would be the first to suggest a reevaluation of a tense situation to allow an individual the opportunity to choose a non physical solution. Few could match his strength and resolve.
His endearing presence, his strong faith in God, radiant smile and positive, upbeat personality will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his Fiancé and best friend, Ann Ballard, his cherished Mother, Maureen Iliff Fritzer, his sister Lori, his Brothers, Rip (Debbie) and Robbie (Dawn) and his nieces and nephew, Jackie, Janine, Nicole and Brandon.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held at Robbie and Dawn’s home at 2966 Wildwind Drive, El Cajon 92019 on Sunday April 15, 2018 at 1pm. Please join us and share your stories about this very special man.
