Rolando B. Rodriguez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and proud United States Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, in San Diego, California, at the age of 90.
Born in the Philippines to Candida Bayona and Jesus Rodriguez, Rolando was the eldest of four children. He grew up in Manila alongside his younger siblings Anita, Rosendo, and Lydia. From his earliest years, Rolando was adventurous, spirited, and determined—a man who would spend his life forging his own path.
As a young man, he attended Mapúa Institute of Technology in Manila. With graduation within reach, Rolando made a decision that would change the direction of his life. During a United States Navy recruiting period in the Philippines, he left school to enlist, beginning more than two decades of service that would take him far beyond the streets of Manila where his story began.
Around that same time, another chapter of his life was beginning.
Rolando caught sight of a beautiful young woman named Marcelina Torno who became and remained the love of his life for over 50 years. Together they laid the foundations of a beautiful family that bridged two continents. Their journey began with the births of their first three children in Manila, and was later completed with the arrival of two more in San Diego. They were the proud parents of Rene, Ron, Marsha, Rommel, and Marla. As their children grew and began families of their own, Rolando and Marcelina lovingly welcomed Tammy, James, Mae-Ann, and Patrick into their growing family.
Their joy continued with the arrival of their grandchildren: Summer de Vera, Sebastian Rodriguez, Roman Rodriguez, Romina Rodriguez, and Madison Sarne. Their children, spouses, and grandchildren became the family and legacy that Rolando and Marcelina treasured most.
Rolando leaves behind a remarkable ninety-year journey: from Manila to San Diego, from student to sailor, from a determined young suitor to a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcelina T. Rodriguez.
Rolando is survived by his five children and their families, his grandchildren, his sister Lydia, extended family, and the many relatives and friends fortunate enough to have shared in his life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rolando’s life at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
