A loving husband, devoted father, caring brother, doting uncle, loyal compadre, and true friend. Romeo Felix was all of these things in the time that we all knew and loved him. Leaving us too soon on January 6, 2011 at 73, Romy nonetheless left us with an amazing legacy.
True to his loving and caring nature, Romy was born appropriately enough on Valentine’s Day, 1937, in the Philippines, raised with his siblings, Roger, Rosario, Remedios, Rebecca, Ronald, and Resurreccion. After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Purita Jose, they both raised three children, Rizalita, Robert, and Rosalynn. Settling in Dededo, Guam, Romy worked for over 25 years with Continental Airlines, where he soon became the “go‐to” person at the airport, working with and making connections with a host of other co‐workers and friends in the industry. After his retirement he was able to parlay the networking that served him so well in the airlines to becoming self‐employed as a travel agent. During this time he became a bedrock of the community, assisting his siblings with the raising of their children, being available for all his relatives in one capacity or another, and seeing his eldest daughter wed to Nenito Flores.
Unfortunately, declining health prompted a long‐term re‐location from his beloved Guam to San Diego to seek better medical care. For the next eight years he helped build a new home base for his family in Chula Vista, where he played delighted and welcoming host to visiting relatives for short and long‐term stays, holding court to numerous parties and proudly giving his youngest daughter’s hand in marriage to Toetu Fitiausi.
As his family, as much as we are proud of our father’s many accomplishments, we will always be thankful for the strength of character he instilled in each of us and the strong foundation he created in each of our lives that has allowed us to thrive as adults. He shared a loving and caring relationship with (in his words) the “most beautiful wife” for over 50 years. We feel the greatest aspect of his legacy will be the unwavering, unconditional love that our father had for anyone and everyone he encountered. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and for that we are forever grateful.
