Rosita Driz Closa was born on July 5, 1928 and raised in Batangas City, Philippines. She is the daughter of Martina Cueto Driz and Margarito Driz and the third from the eldest of 4 other siblings namely from eldest to youngest: Balbino, Luis, Soledad and Efren. As siblings, they never had any arguments nor spoke ill about each another. They treated each other with utmost respect and honesty.
At a young age, she was very business minded and was the owner of her business until she got married and left the Philippines.
Rosita Cueto Driz met Melecio Fortu Closa while he was on leave. He was in the United States Navy at that time and had already put in 10 years of service. On April 10, 1954, they got married at the Catholic Basilica of Batangas City, Philippines.
A few months after her husband, Melecio was assigned to Japan and she followed him. She was a devoted housewife and made every effort to make her new found life in another country adventure. They were stationed in Japan for approximately 2 years and they were blessed with twin daughters: Rose Marie Closa Berberabe and Mary Anne Closa Villaflor. Later, were also blessed with 5 grandchildren; Rozelle Marie, Michelle Marie, Dustin Michael, Marc Matthew and Melissa Marie. Then, more blessings 4 great grandchildren: Jayden Chace, Jordyn Belle, Jazmyn Shaye and Taejon Michael whom she adored and loved.
Rosita and her husband were transferred to the United States and were given their first duty station in San Francisco for a year then San Diego for approximately 3 years where she completed her Cosmetology course, worked for a few years then received orders to transfer to Norfolk, VA for another 3 years. In 1967, Rosita agreed to go back to the Philippines with the twins and decided to have them complete their education until 1978.
Rosita enjoyed traveling and taking trips and vacations with friends. Her favorite vacation places included Europe, Holy Land, and Caribbean Cruise among other places.
Rosita devoted most of her years taking care of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the company of friends and family.
Rosita passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 17, 2019 at the home of Mary Anne and Macario Villaflor. She is survived by her daughters, Rose Marie and Mary Anne; sons-in-law Michael and Macario; and her grandchildren Rozelle Marie, Gines, Michelle Marie, Dustin Michael, Marc Matthew and Melissa Marie and great grandchildren; Jayden Chace, Jordyn Belle, Jazmyn Shaye and Taejon Michael. Services were held at Mater Dei Catholic Parish. Rosita was laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Bonita California.
Rosita will be remembered as loving, caring, protective, strict, determined, strong willed, practical and her openness to speak her mind. Her affectionate advises, warm hugs, tender guidance and most of all but certainly not the least her concern for good health and our well-being will surely be missed. Our fond memories of her will forever be in our heart. Watch over us with dad in the heavens…
