Announcement and Obituary
It is with heavy hearts the family announces that Salvador Ferrer was called to Our Lord on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the age of 91 years. Surrounded by his loving wife and family, he died peacefully at the family home where Salvador and Aurea rooted and raised their family.
Born December 25, 1932 in Pangasinan, Philippines, meant every Christmas was also a birthday celebration for “Ador”. The fifth of ten children, Salvador first attended Adelphi College, then enlisted in the Navy in 1953 “To See the World” as he told his granddaughter Dylan for a school project. Known as “Sal” in his work life, he was a career Navy-man, serving on various ships and bases around the world during his years of loyal service.
Ador met his bride Aurea in January 1958 at a family gathering while visiting home in the Philippines, and he quickly knew she was the “One” that would be his forever love. They immediately married and became one on February 15, which meant another combo celebration with Valentine’s Day.
The Navy took Ador and Aurie to scattered Naval bases, and had four children along their journey: Thea in Japan, Roland in Great Lakes, Derwin in San Diego, and Vince in Long Beach. They also made lifelong friends in Navy housing, where they created memories and helped one another to ease the burdens on the families left home while the sailors were away at sea.
With his final base station at 32nd Street, Ador and Aurie settled in San Diego and bought their first and only home in 1968, giving a stable foundation for their young family. Despite a full house, they generously took in relatives into the home on their journeys to America. Ador achieved the rank Chief Petty Officer and ultimately retired from active duty in 1973, and worked again for the US Navy in the Civil Service until full retirement in 1992.
Ador was a man of few words, but full of smiles. He led by example, was a reliable husband, father and friend, and was always there for his many loved ones. A handyman with an “I can do that” attitude, most of his projects around the house are still in place today. In his own quiet way, he loved his wife dearly, and loved his kids and the “out-laws”, and being “Lolo” to his seven grandkids and three grandchildren-in-laws: Andrea and Franklin (Anthea and Bach Nguyen); Ethan (Roland and Ellen); Drew/Nathan and Dylan (Derwin and Didi); Haley/Brandi and Sophie/Alika (Vincent and Christine).
Together with Aurie, his goals were simple: To love and provide for his family; set a foundation in faith, education, and hard work; and let them fly. Salvador lived a long life and achieved all of those goals and watched us carry on his legacy from his favorite chair, often while cheering on the Padres. We love you Pops/Dad/Lolo and we’ll see you again. Thank you everyone for your love and prayers…The Ferrer Family
