June 23, 1922 - May 18, 2013
Pauline was born to Elmer and Amanda Naylor in North Platte, Nebraska on June 23, 1922. She was the Tenth child out of 13 children and until she was in High School, her family called her Polly. She had seven brothers and five sisters to share her life with and no matter what the hardships were, they always had a lot of fun because they had each other. She was a bit of a Tom-boy, always trying to keep up with her brothers. They were a very close-knit family watching out for each other and always sharing what little they had.
She met her first husband Robert Henry Hackett, Sr., when her brother Bud brought him home from the army, where the two had become good friends. It was love at first sight for both of them and they eventually were married May 16, 1941. They had three children together; Deanna, Robert Jr., and Brad. They lived in Oregon until 1952, when they decided to move to San Diego, California where the weather was a little better for steady work.
Pauline worked at the North Island Naval Air Station managing payroll and keeping accurate records of “Hazard Pay” for the pilots in the Pacific Fleet and also for the ”Blue Angels”. She was very much loved and respected at her work, where she earned many awards for service above and beyond the call of duty. She retired officially at 65 years of age, but they kept calling her back to work for just a little longer until she finally retired for real at the age of 70 years.
She was a good friend to many and was always the first to volunteer her time if she found someone was in need. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She worked hard all week and then would ask to have one or more of her grandchildren stay with her for the weekend. She was tireless and always had time for her family. She hosted many memorable family Holiday parties and always loved doing it.
Her second marriage was to a kind and wonderful man named Max Hein. He quickly won the hearts and love of everyone in the family. One of their favorite past-times was to go to Laughlin, Nevada and spend a carefree week at the Flamingo Hotel. They both loved to dance and stayed very socially active at their clubhouse helping to organize parties and activities with some of the other residents at their Mobile Home Park. They definitely enjoyed their lives together. They were happily married for 25 years. Sadly, Max passed away a year ago last March and Pauline has missed his company very much.
Pauline has left a “Lasting Legacy” in her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and will be keeping watch with great love in her heart. She will be back with her Papa and Mama and brothers and sisters and her youngest son Brad. She can once again dance in the arms of her beloved Max, whom she loved and has missed so much.
