Sharon Yakas, age 74, of Chula Vista, CA, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, while visiting family in AZ. She was doing exactly what she loved: traveling and spending time with her family.
Sharon was born in Zion, IL on June 2, 1950, to John and Ruth Van Ballegooijen. She was the youngest of three children. In 1976, she married the love of her life, Dennis Yakas, and together they made their way to California. Sharon had three children, whom she loved dearly. When her kids were young, she was able to be home and care for the family. As her children grew, she began working in a local 7-Eleven store, where she worked as a store manager for 18 years. When the grandkids started to come, it was time to retire and be home to travel and enjoy spending time with her three grandkids. One of her favorite things to do was travel with family, whether it be an Alaskan cruise or a long road trip. In January 2024, Sharon finally met her goal of being able to visit all 50 states.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dennis Yakas, and their three children and spouses; Robin Yakas, Dawn Poirier (Denis), and Donald Yakas (Ana), and her three grandchildren Becky Yakas, Ricky Svoboda, and Carson Poirier. She is also survived by her two brothers, Jack Van Ballegooijen and Terry Van Ballegooijen (Kathleen).
