I was saddened to read that Mrs. Fregoso passed. Although I was not one of her students, I remember her very well when I attended Lowell elementary school in the early to mid 80’s. My condolences to her family.  May she rest in peace. She was good friends with another great teacher there, Mrs. Beatriz Santana-Hernandez. If anyone has Mrs. Santana’s contact information, I would love to send her a message.

Though we’re both from Calexico, I got to know her better  since we both worked as bilingual teachers for San Diego Unified School District. She was such a good teacher and she touched the lives of so many students.  May you carry her memory in your hearts forever and remember she is smiling down at you. ❤️

Heaven received a beautiful Angel named Socorro.  We met a little more than 40 years ago at Lowell Elementary.  Socorro had a beautiful smile to match her beautiful heart and soul.  We then became better friends as we both were pregnant with our first child at the same time, as were about 10 others, we were sure it was the water.  Our girls have been inseparable since.  It has been an honor to be included in your milestone moments, I admired the way that Socorro and Jorge floated across the dance floor in celebration. 

I am thankful that God crossed our paths, until we meet again.


Words cannot express how sad I feel- how sad we all feel. Your mother was light, whose infectious energy would brighten each and everyone of us. I know she was a pillar of strength and love in the Aguilar family. She may not be here in this physical space but her lessons, wisdom, joy and resilience will always be in our hearts and our minds.

Siempre me he sentido bendecida con la amistad que compartimos por mas de 40 años. Desde el primer día que nos conocimos yo supe que Dios me había traído una amiga extraordinaria.  Una mujer que amaba a su familia, amigos y la vida. Siempre te admire porque brindabas mucho cariño, lealtad y amor. 
Yo se que nos vas a seguir iluminando desde el cielo con tu luz.  Agradezco todos los años que compartimos, como hermanas. Te mando un fuerte abrazo hasta el cielo, mi ángel.

Heaven received a beautiful Angel in Socorro.  May her sprit live on in her loving family. May she continue to watch over and be a light to guide them through the days ahead.  Socorro's love for her family, friends and neighbors will always be remembered and cherished.  We were blessed to know her and to have her in our lives. Socorrito, siempre te recordaré con todo mi amor.! Gracias infinitas por tanto tiempo de linda amistad. Fuiste desde el principio una gran amiga, comadre, hermana. Nunca me acostumbraré a tu partida, pero aceptó la voluntad de nuestro Dios! No adiós si no asta luego! Ahora bailas en el cielo!

I still can't believe my friend Socorro is gone. She has left such  a big hole in my heart. Just the other day, I was driving home when I had this sudden impulse to call Socorro, but I quickly realized that I couldn't and it made me so sad. So instead, I remembered all the wonderful times we shared. I remembered the Christmas parties, the lunches, the heart-to-heart talks, the laughter and the never ending smiles. I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful friend and comadre like her.  I will never forget my friend Socorro.❤️❤️

Our beloved Socorro has left us. Our hearts are broken. We will feel her lost forever. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a  wonderful “comadre.”                   
    She fought so hard, with tremendous grace and optimism inspiring us all. 
She is in heaven dancing with the angels.

Remembering Socorro.....❤️❤️❤️

     I had the pleasure of teaching with Socorro for fifteen years at Perkins K-8.
We shared neighboring classrooms both
upstairs and downstairs.  She was lovingly known as the “nice” teacher while
I was infamous as the “mean” one. 💐
     We retired together in 2015 and enjoyed meeting for breakfast all over town always searching for the restaurant 
with the best menudo and chilaquiles.
Sadly, both of us contracted ovarian cancer and ended up sitting next to each 
other while receiving chemo at Kaiser-Zion.  🌺
       What an inspiration she was to me!  While I wined and complained as they poked and prodded us she never did.  I remember her telling me after four years of dealing with the rollercoaster ride 🎢 of ovarian cancer, “I’m not giving up because I love life too much!” 🌼
        What will color the lovely memories I
have of Socorro are her beauty, kindness,
and delightful sense of fun 😜.  Also, that she loved her family so much and was proud of each and every one of them. 🌸
          Am so thankful that our paths crossed on this life journey.🏇🏻🏇🏻 I will miss her🌻

During the many years that Socorro and I taught together at Perkins, she was one of the kindest and most helpful people I had the pleasure of knowing and working with. We shared many lunches together, when Socorro spoke very fondly of her family:  Jorge's running accomplishments, Jenny's life in Chicago, Jorgito's business endeavors , and much more. She worked long hours to insure the best education for her students, to whom she was relentlessly dedicated.  Socorro will be remembered and missed by all who had the fortune to know her. My condolences and prayers are with you, her cherished family. 

Mi amiga y comadre de tantos años. Siempre admire su fortaleza, su dedicación a todo lo que hacía y especialmente el amor tan grande que tenía a sus hijos y especialmente a su querido Jorge.  Todavía no puedo aceptar que no te veré pronto, te quiero y siempre te querré. Comadres para siempre!!

I missed Socorro when she retired and left me at Perkins. I looked forward to retiring so we could spend more time together. I missed her when COVID-19 kept us from seeing each other.  I  looked forward to giving her a hug. Now I miss her the most and look forward to when we meet again.  Rest In Peace.

with a compassionate soul , who always made everyone around her feel loved and welcome. She fought a great fight and did it with so much grace and optimism. My love, thoughts,and prayers are with the family.
