Susan M. Aquino, aged 62, entered eternal life on February 15, 2025, at Sharp Hospital in Chula Vista, CA. A devoted sister, treasured aunt, and cherished friend, Susan was known for her unwavering love and kindness, always ensuring that everyone around her felt valued and special.
Born on December 5, 1962, in Baguio City, Philippines, Susan was the eighth of ten children of Alberto Sr. and Nieves Aquino. She is survived by all but the eldest of her siblings, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their children, who deeply mourn her loss and celebrate her memory.
Susan graduated from St. Louis University in Baguio City with a degree in Industrial Engineering. At the age of 24, she immigrated to San Diego, CA, in 1987, embarking on a remarkable journey of service and dedication. Susan proudly served in the U.S. Army for eight years before pursuing her calling as a Registered Nurse, working at Sharp Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital in La Jolla, CA.
After retiring from her nursing career, Susan devoted her life entirely to God and her faith. A devout Catholic, she actively participated in numerous church organizations, touching countless lives through her compassion and commitment. St. Rita’s was her home parish, but she also attended and served at St. Michael’s, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mater Dei, St. Jude, and other parishes within the diocese. Susan's involvement with the Divine Mercy Hills Foundation and her work as a Lay Missionary of Charity exemplified her selfless dedication to God’s work and to the community she loved.
In October 2024, Susan suffered a major stroke that limited her ability to serve. Though homebound, she continued to lead a prayerful life, filled with devotion and faith, until she was called home after a second stroke in February 2025.
Susan’s life will be celebrated at a viewing service on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 5 pm to 9 pm, at Glen Abbey Memorial Park (Magnolia Room), 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA. Her funeral mass will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10 am, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 5124 Churchward Street, San Diego, CA, followed by her burial at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
