Thomas Morton Cox passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 15, 2026, after a long illness. He leaves behind 4 sons, Thomas, Douglas, David and Sean, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He lost his wife Hazel in 2019. He rejoins her now after all of these years.
Thomas was born in rural Kentucky, raised on a farm where he drove tractors at the young age of 5, and helped his family all he could. The oldest of 6, he worked hard all of his life. After graduating high school, he married his sweetheart Hazel, and enlisted in the Air Force, where he excelled as a military police officer prior to transitioning to computer technology. He started on the bottom floor when the computers were as big as a house, and advanced almost as rapidly as the technology did. He was incredibly successful and even worked on special projects including the SR-71 Blackbird, which was one of his favorite projects. Upon retiring from the Air Force after 20 years as a Master Sergeant, he continued his work with computers with a variety of different companies. He was a deacon at the First Southern Baptist Church of Johnstown, in east El Cajon.
Services will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Park on July 21, 2026, at 1 pm. Private interment at Miramar National Cemetery will follow the service.
